September Wrap Up and October TBR

Hey everyone!
Today I'm doing my September Wrap Up and my October TBR. To be honest, September wasn't a great reading month. I read 1 and about 3/4 of a book. But in October, there are many new releases that I'll be reading!

WRAP UP
So I randomly decided to reread The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan this month. Oops?
I also started reading Insight by Jamie Magee (it was free) but I haven't finished it yet!

TBR
This is a bit more exciting. I might reread Insurgent by Veronica Roth to refresh myself.
I will also be reading these new releases:
  • The House of Hades by Rick Riordan (4/5 Heroes of Olympus)
  • Allegiant by Veronica Roth (3/3 Divergent)
  • Unsouled by Neal Shusterman (3/3 Unwind)
  • Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken (2/3 The Darkest Minds)
  • Altered by Gennifer Albin (2/3 Crewel)
I'm looking forward to this month's reading! Thanks for reading, Kait

Novellas

Hey everyone!
Today I'm talking about novellas in general, nothing specific. For those who don't know, novellas are not long enough to be a book, but too long to be a short story. Most of the times (maybe even all of the times) novellas are small parts of the main series. For instance, Destroy Me by Taherah Mafi is book 1.5. It's not essential to understand the main series's plot or characters, but it does improve your understanding. Others novellas are mini stories that it different from the main plot line of the series or happens in between series if there's a spin off or addition. A good example of this is the PJO/HOO series. Rick Riordan has written the Demigod Files and The Demigod Diaries which include a set of stories in them that don't have anything to do with the main plot focus of the series. Many series have novellas, here are a few listed.
  • Divergent,Roth
  • The Kane Chronicles, Riordan
  • PJO, Riordan
  • HOO, Riordan
  • Caster Chronicles, Garcia & Stohl
  • The Darkest Minds, Bracken
  • Shatter Me, Mafi
  • Delirium, Oliver
  • Cinder, Meyer
And those are only a few! Thanks for reading! -Kait

Uncompleted Series Tag

Hey everyone!
Two posts ago I did the
Completed Series Tag but I realized I had many uncompleted series as well. So here I am, doing this post for you all! Like last time, I'll be listing all the book series I haven't finished- and I believe for most of them, it's because the additions in the series are not out yet. This time, I'm providing links to my reviews, too!
Those are all the uncompleted series that I have! I'm excited to finish all these series. I hope you enjoyed, and thanks for reading! -Kait

Five Books to Continue a Series I Can't Wait for PART 2

Hey everyone!
A little while ago I did part one to this blog, which you can find here. Since then, I read several new series that were uncompleted! This is in no specific order; however, in part one, House of Hades is number one and Allegiant is number two. Both of those are in order- I want HOH the most, and Allegiant second! Otherwise, like I said, there's no order.

     1. The Retribution of Mara Dyer | Michelle Hodkin (October 22, 2013)
I love this series. I have a review on them here! Especially after the cliffhanger in the second one! But I'm so excited for this book!

     2. Never Fade | Alexandra Bracken (October 15, 2013)
I adored The Darkest Minds (which I also have a review here). However, I'm not sure I like the direction that we're headed in. I talk about it in my review, but without trying to spoil anything, a few characters that I really liked and made the first book might not show up in this one. But I still bet it will be amazing!

     3. The Diviners #2 | Libba Bray (March 11, 2014)
I loved the first book! I just did a review a couple of days ago, which you can see here- more self promotion!). It was pretty creepy, but really interesting! I love the characters, the plot, the setting... and we have to wait a long time. I thought waiting for October 8th will be hard, but this is even longer. Thank you.

     4. The 5th Wave #2 | Rick Yancey (August 2014)
You see, I really did enjoy the first one. But I didn't like it as much as other people. I think I was in a reading slump when I read this. HOWEVER, from page 300 and on.... it was so awesome! And how this book ended... it makes me excited for the next one!

     5. Shatter Me #3 | Taherah Mafi (February 4th, 2014)
I really liked the first book, but in the second, personally, I found the place she was at (trying not to spoil!) a little uninteresting. But I loved the ending and when she talked with Warner and all that exciting stuff. How Unravel Me ended makes me super excited for this book!

This were a few of the books that I can't wait for! I hope you enjoyed! -Kait

June Wrap Up & July TBR

Hey everyone!
Today I'll be sharing the books that I read in June and what I'm planning on reading for this month.

JUNE WRAP UP
  • The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken (review here)
  • The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan (review here- for whole trilogy)
  • The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan
  • The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan
  • Across the Universe by Beth Revis (review here)
  • A Million Suns by Beth Revis (Do not have a review for this one and Shades of Earth, if you would like to see one, let me know!)
I just finished Shades of Earth yesterday, but since it was July, it doesn't count! Just to let you all know!

JULY TBR
REREADS:
  • City of Bones
  • City of Ashes
  • City of Glass
  • City of Fallen Angels
  • City of Lost Souls
All by Cassandra Clare. Yes, I'm planning on rereading TMI this month. I might stop after the first three because I have a lot of other books I want to reread, but I'll see how far I get. The Diviners might take a while- it's thick, and I have read books this thick in two days, but I'm not sure how much the story will capture me! It's kind of intimidating!

Thanks for reading! -Kait

Book Review: The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

Hey everyone!
A few days ago, I read The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken, the first book in the trilogy. The second book, Never Fade, is coming out this October. I loved this book- one of my favorite dystopian books this year, so far!

The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1)The Darkest Minds | Alexandra Bracken, Book 1
"When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something alarming enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have emerged with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.

Now sixteen, Ruby is one of the dangerous ones.

When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she’s on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of kids who escaped their own camp. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close. Not after what happened to her parents.

When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living."

One thing that I find that can really make a book are the characters. And this book- I loved the characters! Ruby, Liam, Zu, Chubs.... I all loved them. I'm not going to go into specifics, but I think that each of them had their own flaws, yet had awesome attributes, too! The action was great. Some CRAZY things happened in this book. And even when they were driving, the conversations and all were so interesting! The writing was good, too. There were great uses of figurative language, but it was easy to understand. But the things I loved most:
SPOILERS!
Sorry, but you really don't want to read further if you haven't read third book. Come back when you do!

Top 5 Series I Want to Start But Haven't Yet

Hey everyone!
I saw this popular video going around on YouTube and thought it would be fun to do it here. I have all of these series except one, and I can't wait to start them all.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1)The first series I'm excited to start is the Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan. Rick Riordan is probably one of my favorite authors so I'm excited to read more of his work! The Son of Sobek will be relasing as an Ebook in June (AND IT HAS A HOUSE OF HADES EXCERPT!) and I'll be reading that as well!

Next, I'm looking forward to starting the Mara Dyer series by Michelle Hodkin. The first two are out and I have been waiting to start these books for a long time!

The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1)The third series is the Across the Universe series by Beth Revis. I heard great things about this trilogy and I own all three, so I hope I do like it! (Except I got them all in the new covers- at least I ordered them that way, but my Million Suns copy is the old cover- which is really pretty- but now it's even more weird looking!)

After that, we have The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. I got the first one, since it's the only one out, but I also heard amazing things about this series! It sounds really interesting, and I based my buying of this book off of the recommendations without knowing too much, so I hope it's good!

Lastly, the fifth series is the Unearthly trilogy. Like I said, I've also heard great things about these books, so I really want to buy them and read them.

Thanks for reading! -Kait

April Wrap Up and May TBR

Hey everyone!
As May begins, it means a new wrap up and TBR post! This is a little more productive, for lack of a better word. I hope you all had a great April and are looking forward to May.

APRIL WRAP UP
I reread three books: Percy Jackson and the Olympians 1-3: The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, and The Titan's Curse. I read four new books this month as well.
Rise (Eve, #3)The first book I read was Unravel Me by Taherah Mafi- the second book in the Shatter Me trilogy. You can read more of what I have to say here, but overall I enjoyed it!
The next book I read was a stand-alone: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I also have have a review here, so I'm not going to go in detail. To be honest, I was expecting more of this book, but I still loved it!
After that, I finally got around to reading Rise by Anna Carey which is the third and final installment of the Eve trilogy. Coming from a point of view where this trilogy isn't my favorite, I did enjoy Rise. I think Eve is still my favorite, but I liked it more than Once. And the ending- I had to look it up on Goodreads to make sure I wasn't inferring the wrong thing!
The last book I read was Cinder by Marissa Meyer- the first book in the Lunar Chronicles. I loved the concept of this book, with all the fantasy and sci-fi mixed! I definitely recommend it!
Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2)
MAY TBR
I planning on finishing the Beautiful Creatures series. I'm currently reading the second one, but I've been having no time to read lately! I loved Beautiful Creatures- I read it in two days. I'm really excited to see where this series goes!
Next, I'll be reading Scarlet by Marissa Meyer, the second book in the Lunar Chronicles. I'm also excited to see where this series will be turning to and about our "Red Riding Hood" this time!
I'm not planning on thinking about what book I'm going to read next. When the time comes, I'll probably pick one. But I think I'm going to try to get to The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. I hear amazing things about this book and I can't wait to read it! If I still have a lot of reading time, I'll probably start the Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan! Thanks for reading! -Kait
