Book Reviews: Cinder and Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Hey everyone!
Today I'll be reviewing Cinder and Scarlet by Marissa Meyer spoiler-free. My thoughts so far on this series are that I love it. I love how Marissa Meyer retells fairytale stories, but they have this huge science fiction aspect to them. The characters are great as well as the events that happen!

Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1)Cinder by Marissa Meyer | Book 1, The Lunar Chronicles
"Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future."

Like I said above, I really enjoyed these books. I loved figuring out about the Lunar world the most, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy learning about anything less. Cinder's character is great! She's sarcastic and does her own thing. I enjoyed taking this adventure along with her!

Scarlet (Lunar Chronicles, #2)Scarlet by Marissa Meyer | Book 2, The Lunar Chronicles

"The fates of Cinder and Scarlet collide as a Lunar threat spreads across the Earth...

Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner."

I loved Scarlet! It was by far my favorite. I loved the adventure much more than Cinder and the new characters. This follows Little Red Riding Hood, and I thought it was so creative how she incorporated that story into Scarlet. I love the new characters: Scarlet, Wolf, Thorne, etc. They're all so interesting! Wolf and Thorne both had me tricked- I wasn't sure about either of them in different contexts (Wolf being all innocent of what he knew and stuff; and I thought Thorne would get annoying), but they turned about to be great characters in the end. I'm very excited to see where this series is going to head next!
Thanks for reading, Kait
