Book Review: The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan

Hey everyone!
Today I'm reviewing the Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan! It's the fourth installment and I must say my favorite so far! I really enjoyed this one so much and have been thinking about this series an unhealthy amount! Ugh. Soooo good!
The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #4)
Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Battle of the Labyrinth
By Rick Riordan

"When demonic cheerleaders invade his high school, Percy Jackson hurries to Camp Half Blood, from whence he and his demigod friends set out on a quest through the Labyrinth, while the war between the Olympians and the evil Titan lord Kronos draws near."

Where to start! Well I read this whole book in a few hours, so if that isn't enough proof to read it, or how amazing it was, then all I have to say is: GO READ IT.

SPOLIERS!!

Books of 2013 I Can't Wait For

Hey everyone!
Many exciting books are due to come out in the upcoming year that I have been impatiently waiting. So here's the list of books that I am dying to get, but come out in 2013 in order from I really can't wait to a little more patience.

1. Requiem | Lauren Oliver (March 5, 2013)
The ending of Pandemonium. There's so much to look for in that book. I will probably do a separate post when March comes around!

2. Divergent #3 | Veronica Roth (Fall 2013)
Yes, you can see that I really want Requiem if Divergent #3 came in second!

3. Prodigy | Marie Lu ( January 29, 2013)
I loved the first one Legend a lot and can't wait to continue Day and June's story!

4. Unsouled | Neal Shusterman (October 15, 2013)
Again, the first two were great and I can't wait to continue their stories! With Connor and Risa and then Lev, Miracolina, Starkey and Cam. It's going to be awesome!

5. Unravel Me | Taherah Mafi (February 5, 2013)
I can't wait to see how Shatter Me continues. Especially why certain people can touch Juliette without getting killed....

6. Rise | Anna Carey (April 2, 2013)
This series is not my favorite, but I did enjoy it and I really want to see how it turns out!

All these books I'm looking forward to reading! I recommend all the series I mentioned too. :) -Kait

Book Review: The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan

Hey everyone!
I recently read the second installment to the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, The Sea of Monsters, and thought it was appropriate to do a review! Also, this was my 100th book on Goodreads! *This will have spoilers for the first book which I do have a review on!

The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #2)Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Book Two: The Sea of Monsters | Rick Riordan

"The heroic son of Poseidon makes an action-packed comeback in the second must-read installment of Rick Riordan's amazing young readers series. Starring Percy Jackson, a "half blood" whose mother is human and whose father is the God of the Sea, Riordan's series combines cliffhanger adventure and Greek mythology lessons that results in true page-turners that get better with each installment. In this episode, The Sea of Monsters, Percy sets out to retrieve the Golden Fleece before his summer camp is destroyed, surpassing the first book's drama and setting the stage for more thrills to come."

Like I always say when I like a book, I really enjoyed this one. I think I might like the first one a little more, but this one was not a disappointment to the series. The plot line was very exciting and the setting was very different than The Lightning Thief. The adventure continues, and I can NOT wait to get the third one! But I am still on my BBB so I'll have to wait until after Christmas.

What Books To Read for Beginners

Hey everyone!
If you have just started to realize your passion for reading- I am here to help. Once upon a time, Kait  read The Hunger Games and realized books can be good! (Or in THG's case, really, really amazingly good.) So, I have a little guide if you're wondering what books to read. Even if you have been an avid reader for a while, you may still want to keep reading to hear some recommendations! Keep in mind, I 99% read Young Adult novels. About 60% of them are dystopian. Therefore, you may feel differently towards this books, but personally, I really like them all! I organized them by category so if you have a specific interest, you can go to that category and see the books. I know there's not many though :P. (For beginners, dystopian is usually when the government is cruel, unfair, corrupt, or something and has a sci-fi element in it, like in the future.) Some categories may not be a genre, like dystopian, but some may. I may say books more than once! If you want to know more, feel free to search my blog because I may have something on that book. The starred ones I really recommend.

Dystopian:
**The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
*Divergent by Veronica Roth
Legend by Marie Lu
Delirium by Lauren Oliver
Matched by Ally Condie
Unwind by Neal Shusterman

Fantasy:
*Harry Potter
*Percy Jackson and the Olympians (The Lightning Thief-Book 1)

Supernatural:
*The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare (City of Bones- Book 1) (Some love, some don't-I'm in the middle but more on the love side.)
The Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Steifvater (Shiver-Book 1)
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Emotional books:
*The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
The Hunger Games... (where did this come from? Hey, it is sad at some parts!)

And yeah! Those are some books I recommend for beginners! -Kait

Book Review: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)
Hey everyone!
I finished reading the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series last night, and am going through torture because I promised myself I would not start the Sea of Monsters until this weekend. Kids, don't make promises you don't want to keep... it ends out very bad...

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
By Rick Riordan
**Spoiler Free**

*Warning: Lots of 'really liked' and 'anyways' ahead...
"Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus' master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus' stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves."

This book takes place all across the country in present day form, but there's a twist. There's Greek gods hovering over you, or if you're Hades, I guess, under you. I normally keep to my dystopian worlds... ohh Panem.... sorry... anyways, this was very fun to read! I really enjoyed this book. Like really, really. Easily top 10. I really liked how Rick Riordan described everything without too much detail, which bores me, unless it's The Hunger Games (......). Moreover, I came into reading this book knowing the very basics of Greek mythology. I not only enjoyed reading this book, but I learned from it too. You don't have to know things like how Demeter is the goddess of agriculture to read this book which was another bonus.
I did see the movie- which I know is "nothing like the books" as everyone tells me. When they said that I thought they meant nothing, with capital N... and O and T and H etc. There were some similarities and mostly differences, but the Minotaur part was in the movie and other things that I am not going to say in sake of those who have not read it. If you haven't read it, why are you reading this? You're supposed to be at the bookstore now or something. I really enjoyed the characters too! Haha, did you guys notice the pun (not sure if it was intentional or not) Gabe Ugliano. You probably, most likely, pronounce it differently but, Ug-ly-on-o. It sometimes how I do it. But get it? Ugliano? Yep. Real funny Kait. Hey, I thought I would mention it.
I'm not going into spoilers because there's nothing really that shocked me or very large deaths that need to be said. However, I do have a question. Which god would you want to be a demi-god of? In other words, what god-like powers do you wish you had? Hmmm... I think it would be very cool to be either Poseidon (God of the Sea) or Athena (God of Wisdom and something else, strategy or battle or something...). Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this review! Overall, 5/5 stars! :)

Joining a Fandom...

Hey everyone!
Guess what book I'm reading? .... I'm reading Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief! For those who have read my BBB post, I did not buy this. My mom got this for my brother a while ago, which he never read, and then recently I remembered we have it and decided to start it. So far, I really enjoy it. I will probably be doing a review soon! :) A better post will be coming soon, I have been very busy this past week! I am actually leaving for the doctor's in a little bit! Just wanted to update you all! Oh, and I haven't been able to right much. That is why there is a very big delay on Chapter 4. -Kait

Book Review: Shatter Me by Taherah Mafi

Hey everyone!
Today's book review is on the book Shatter Me by Taherah Mafi. This is her first book in the series, and her 1.5 book, Destroy Me, is out as an eBook, which I have yet to read. I read this book 2-3 weeks ago, so my memory may not be as good as if I just finished it. I still hope you enjoy my thoughts and opinions!
Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)"No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal, but The Reestablishment has plans for her. Plans to use her as a weapon. But Juliette has plans of her own. After a lifetime without freedom, she's finally discovering a strength to fight back for the very first time—and to find a future with the one boy she thought she'd lost forever."
Overall, I really loved this book. 5/5 Stars! I thought the plot line and the characters were interesting. The writing, for instance, using the cross out or repeating words, was very unique. Personally, I really liked the writing style! Juliette shows quite a bit of character development. She goes from a fragile, broken girl to someone more strong, but not enough to trust people fully. I feel like Adam is a typical character, to be honest. On the other hand, you have Warner. Warner, what goes on in your head? Taherah Mafi has a really funny video you can find on YouTube here, where you can see how Warner is... lol. Oh and Kenji. Just Kenji...

Find it here on Goodreads!

  2. Beautiful Creatures Box Set I really have been wanting to read the first one, and since I normally continue the series even if the fist book was okay, I thought I would ask for this. (Also, I didn't know the order.)

Book Review: Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick (Hush, Hush 4)

Hey everyone!
Finale (Hush, Hush, #4)Today's book review is on the final installment of the Hush, Hush series, or Finale. You can find it here on Goodreads. Anyways, this book came out October 23, 2012 and I got it a 2-3 days after that, so I read it a while ago. I'm not going to go into specific events or spoilers because I will only be able to think of one or two; therefore, this book review might be short! THIS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST THREE!

"Will love conquer all?

Nora and Patch thought their troubles were behind them. Hank is gone and they should be able to put his ugly vendetta to rest. But in Hank's absence, Nora has become the unwitting head of the Nephilim and must finish what Hank began. Which ultimately means destroying the fallen angels - destroying Patch.

Nora will never let that happen, so she and Patch make a plan: lead everyone to believe they have broken up, and work the system from the inside. Nora will convince the Nephilim that they are making a mistake in fighting the fallen angels, and Patch will find out everything he can from the opposing side. They will end this war before it can even begin.

But the best-laid plans often go awry. Nora is put through the paces in her new role and finds herself drawn to an addictive power she never anticipated.

As the battle lines are drawn, Nora and Patch must confront the differences that have always been between them and either choose to ignore them or let them destroy the love they have always fought for."

Overall, I really liked this book. This book was less of a thriller than the first two, which I did, and yet I didn't, like. I'm not normally one fore thrillers, but it was really exciting to read Hush, Hush and Crescendo. Anyways, this book was very interesting. Personally, it was probably my second favorite out of the four, with Hush, Hush in the lead. So I do recommend it. If, for instance, you didn't like Patch in the first book, he definitely develops so much, as well as Nora. If you read the first few books, I would suggest reading them all, but it really depends. I have to finish a book, and most of the time, the series too.

BBB-Book Buying Ban

Hey everyone!
I wanted to let you know that I will most likely not be buying books for a little while, and therefore there will not be a lot of book reviews, but I do have one coming up. I think I am going to wait until after Christmas for book buying. So I'm doing this idea called BBB (Book Buying Ban) for a bit. If you ever see BBB that means that I won't be buying books for the time being. I may do book reviews on books I read a few months ago (that reminds me, I have to do one on Finale!). I just wanted to let you all know why there won't be a lot of book reiews in the next month, but hey, only 31 days left! -Kait

Book Review: Reached by Ally Condie

Hey everyone!
Reached (Matched, #3)Oh my gosh I am so excited for today's post! I just finished reading Reached last night, and I really liked it. The book takes a very different direction from what I was expecting, but it was still very interesting.

"After leaving Society and desperately searching for the Rising—and each other—Cassia and Ky have found what they were looking for, but at the cost of losing each other yet again: Cassia has been assigned to work for the Rising from within Society, while Ky has been stationed outside its borders. But nothing is as predicted, and all too soon the veil lifts and things shift once again.

In this gripping conclusion to the #1 New York Times-bestselling Matched Trilogy, Cassia will reconcile the difficulties of challenging a life too confining, seeking a freedom she never dreamed possible, and honoring a love she cannot live without."

It even states, "But nothing is as predicted, ..." This is not  huge spoiler because it's the main problem in the story, however the synopsis above doesn't really say what the book's plot is. The Society, or should I say, the Rising created a Plague. The Rising had a cure for the Plague, the tactic was mainly to gain trust over the Society sympathizers. They would give everyone the cure and everyone would trust them and they could get on with a new life.
Until the Plague mutated. Xander is now a medic, so he's been working and treating patients. Cassia's a Rising sorter from Central, and Ky becomes a Pilot with Indie. That's all I'm going to say for now, if you don't want to hear spoilers. :)
Overall, I really liked this book. I'm not sure if it's because it's the last book, or not, but I do know I really, really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone. Again, I'm not sure if it's because I just read it or what, nevertheless, I can say it was probably my favorite out of the three. You find out so much in this book, like why Ky's name got put in the Matching Pool, why Cassia can walk through the blue tablet, (well, more about it)  what the 'red garden day' is, and so much more. I also love the new characters we meet in this book, such as Lei, and even Oker! Lol.... However, this book doesn't answer every single question. Above I said, 'why Cassia can walk through the blue tablet, (well, more about it)'. We don't really know why she can, but we do find more about it.

Update on my Story and Reached!

Hey everyone!
First of all, I have less than 100 pages of Reached left, and oh my gosh..... Expect a book review up sometime this weekend! You can see my progress on Goodreads as well as all my other books!
Second, I have decided on a title. But I want to hear what you think! So still feel free to comment any other title names you may have in mind. I haven't come across any books with this name, but you never know! I thought of 'They Chose Me'. Which, if you read chapter, may not understand. I also added a section to the right where you can view all the work I've done so far on Wattpad. However, I still only have the first draft of chapter one. I hope you guys check it out, it would mean soo soo much!
As always,

Mini Book Haul! (3 Books-11.13.12)

Hey everyone!
Today I am glad to be sharing my first book haul! It's not that big, but I do have three exciting books to share with you all!

The first one I got on October 23, 2012 when the book came out.
Finale | Becca Fitzpatrick *Synopsis will contain spoilers for the first 3.

Reached (Matched, #3)
I already read this book, and I really enjoyed it! It was definately a great ending to the series.

The second one I got today because it came out today!
Reached | Ally Condie *Synopsis will contain spoilers for the first 2
"After leaving Society and desperately searching for the Rising—and each other—Cassia and Ky have found what they were looking for, but at the cost of losing each other yet again: Cassia has been assigned to work for the Rising from within Society, while Ky has been stationed outside its borders.

I haven't started it yet, but I cannot wait to!

The third, and last one, I have been waiting to get for a very long time. It recently came out in paperback, so I was thinking it may be at my bookstore, and guess what? It was!
Shatter Me | Taherah Mafi
Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)"No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal, but The Reestablishment has plans for her. Plans to use her as a weapon. But Juliette has plans of her own. After a lifetime without freedom, she's finally discovering a strength to fight back for the very first time—and to find a future with the one boy she thought she'd lost forever."

I am so excited to read this! It feels like I've been waiting forever. I kind of want to read Reached really fast so I can read this, however I'm going to try not to make that happen.

Hope you enjoyed my book haul! -Kait

Also, if you haven't already, I would love if you could check out the first chapter to my story here!

Reaching 'Reached' by Ally Condie Release Date-What I'm Excited to See

Hey everyone!
Reached (Matched, #3)
See what I did with the title there? As some of you may know, Reached by Ally Conide (Matched #3) releases tomorrow November 13, 2012. For some of you this may be a reminder! :) Anyways, for what I want to see is pretty general. I hope we see Cassia, Ky, Xander, and eve Indie all meet up (which will probably happen). I'm also really excited to find more about Xander's secret because in Crossed we found out that Xander is part of the rebellion but it doesn't go super far in depth. I can't wait to see how Ky (and Cassia too) does in the rebellion. He was very keen on not going,  however since he's there, I wonder what sort of role he'll play. Of course, I'm very, very intrigued (trying to use a word that's not excited) to see who Cassia picks! Ky or Xander? Or maybe she'll find some random hobo on the street to love? Actually, I hope that last part doesn't happen-but you never know!! I will have a review up for it soon! That reminds me, I have to do a review for Finale. Oh, and if you have a book blog that I'm not already following, I would love to check it out because I realized I'm not following many. ~Kait

My Story! First Draft of Chapter 1

Hey everyone!

I would absolutely love feedback and I would definitely take it into consideration. Also, I have yet to find a title for my 'book'. This is only the first draft of the beginning chapter, and therefore you may not get a good sense of the storyline. However if you do think of something let me know! -Kait

My Top 3 Favorite Dystopian Worlds

Hey everyone!
My three favorite dystopian worlds... - none of the three I would like to live in, but I find that the creativity and idea of all these worlds are so creative, that I wanted to share them with you all. And yes, I would recommend all these books! Also, keep in mind that these are not my top 3 favorite books-besides THG of course.

1. The Hunger Games | Suzanne Collins
Yes, I know. But personally I never thought of watching people die for 'entertainment' in a big survival game on TV. Especially not 12-18-year-olds! If you read the series, you know how much further into depth they go, but for now, I'll leave it at that.

2. Delirium | Lauren Oliver
Imagine living without love? Nothing. When I first learned what this series was about, I was immediately curios. I mean literally, how do you live without caring for anyone? From your pet to your parents? I had to read this book just to see. And wow. But seriously, think about it for a second if you haven't yet read Delirium!

3. Matched | Ally Condie
Cassia lives in a perfect society. Perfect. You know how you're going to live, who, what when, and why. However if you read Matched you would know otherwise. Just think about it, how can a society be so perfect?
Divergent is another close runner up, but in the end, I have to reward this books!

Book Review: Dark Life by Kat Falls

Dark Life (Dark Life, #1)Hey everyone!
Today's book review is on the Dark Life by Kat Falls. Yesterday, I was sitting, bored with no power, and found this book hanging out with a few other books of my brother's. I don't think my brother ever read this book, but I decided why not? It was a quick read and I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone that likes an interesting YA book with elements of science fiction and adventure.
Here's the synopsis that Goodreads gives it:
"A thrilling futuristic adventure set deep undersea, Dark Life follows the settlers of the world's first subsea settlement as they defend their homesteads against a brazen band of outlaws.

Set in an apocalyptic future where rising oceans have swallowed up entire regions and people live packed like sardines on the dry land left, DARK LIFE is the harrowing tale of underwater pioneers who have carved out a life for themselves in the harsh deep-sea environment, farming the seafloor in exchange for the land deed.

The story follows Ty, who has lived his whole life on his family's homestead and has dreams of claiming his own stake when he turns eighteen. But when outlaws' attacks on government supply ships and settlements..."

So people were sent underwater as an experiment-a.k.a the Dark Life- because the choice was that, or live aboveground with barely any space for yourself-a.k.a the Topside. I really liked the description and the book and the whole plot line. I thought the whole experimental part (not just with sending them underwater) and how the government was thrown in their, etc. I really liked this book. It was not challenging at all to read. The second book Rip Tide is already out! I will definitely be reading it. I loved the characters, ecspecially Ty and Gemma and I can't wait to continue their adventure subsea. :)
Check it out on Goodreads (where I got the picture and synopsis).

Book Review: The Mortal Instruments "City of Bones"

Hey everyone!
Today's book review is on the City of Bones by Cassnadra Clare, the first book in her Mortal Instruments series. I read this book a little less than two months ago, but I thought it would make a great first book review. First I'm just going to go through my overall thoughts and what's it about, however then I will get into further spoilers if there's something that really stood out to me.
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I find that some people either love it or hate it, but I find I'm in the middle, and then maybe a little over to the love it side. Here's the book's synopsis:
"When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end."

When I first read this I thought it sounded very... weird, these people called Shadowhunters that rid the earth of demons? Sounds strange to me. Next time I went to the bookstore, I decided I might as well try it. Well I read, still thought it was strange, but definitely enjoyable. Not my favorite book by far, but I do recommend it. I gave this book a 3/5 stars on Goodreads.

Introduction/ Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick Book Review

Hey Everyone!
My name is Kait, as some may know if you visit my beauty blog. Since this is my first post, I'm assuming you don't know me well! Since this is a book blog, I might as well confess that I am a HUGE OBSESSIVE FAN OF THE HUNGER GAMES (which I often abbreviate to THG). Now I know a good amount of people enjoy this series, some do because they want to join the bandwagon. But trust me when I say that I love it. I have a very long story about how much I love it, but to keep it short, I love the characters, the idea, the plot, the setting, the writing, the everything... My beauty blog was originally titled "Beauty and The Hunger Games" but I decided to keep that blog fashion and beauty related, and this blog books and THG related. So WARNING: I AM VERY OBSESSIVE AND I WILL TALK ALL DAY ABOUT IT. Anyways, again since this is a book blog, I will tell you my top three favorite books/series: THG-Suzanne Collins, Divergent-Veronica Roth, and Legend-Marie Lu. I will someday go further into depth about them, but for now, I will keep it to that. I am going to leve a link of a book review on Hush, Hush (I'm reading Finale right now! SO happy it finally came out!). I read Hush, Hush back in June/July as well as Crescendo and Silence. I'm posting this just so you get a taste-but keep in my this was my first book review and is quite lengthy-so expect better, and if I don't bring that to you, by all means, chase after me and yell, "You're going to be the next tribute!!" Because I will do better if that would be the scenario. Sorry for this lengthy ramble, and I don't ask this often, nonetheless, I'd really appreciate if you followed my blog because I'm just getting started. Here's the link to my Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick Book Review.

May the odds be ever in your favor, and be brave.
