Book Review: Reached by Ally Condie

Hey everyone!
Reached (Matched, #3)Oh my gosh I am so excited for today's post! I just finished reading Reached last night, and I really liked it. The book takes a very different direction from what I was expecting, but it was still very interesting.

"After leaving Society and desperately searching for the Rising—and each other—Cassia and Ky have found what they were looking for, but at the cost of losing each other yet again: Cassia has been assigned to work for the Rising from within Society, while Ky has been stationed outside its borders. But nothing is as predicted, and all too soon the veil lifts and things shift once again.

In this gripping conclusion to the #1 New York Times-bestselling Matched Trilogy, Cassia will reconcile the difficulties of challenging a life too confining, seeking a freedom she never dreamed possible, and honoring a love she cannot live without."

It even states, "But nothing is as predicted, ..." This is not  huge spoiler because it's the main problem in the story, however the synopsis above doesn't really say what the book's plot is. The Society, or should I say, the Rising created a Plague. The Rising had a cure for the Plague, the tactic was mainly to gain trust over the Society sympathizers. They would give everyone the cure and everyone would trust them and they could get on with a new life.
Until the Plague mutated. Xander is now a medic, so he's been working and treating patients. Cassia's a Rising sorter from Central, and Ky becomes a Pilot with Indie. That's all I'm going to say for now, if you don't want to hear spoilers. :)
Overall, I really liked this book. I'm not sure if it's because it's the last book, or not, but I do know I really, really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone. Again, I'm not sure if it's because I just read it or what, nevertheless, I can say it was probably my favorite out of the three. You find out so much in this book, like why Ky's name got put in the Matching Pool, why Cassia can walk through the blue tablet, (well, more about it)  what the 'red garden day' is, and so much more. I also love the new characters we meet in this book, such as Lei, and even Oker! Lol.... However, this book doesn't answer every single question. Above I said, 'why Cassia can walk through the blue tablet, (well, more about it)'. We don't really know why she can, but we do find more about it.

SPOILERS:

Indie. Ohh Indie. If you read Reached, (hopefully you did) you would know the sad end to the word Indie. It was so sad to hear that she died, but she did die piloting! Indie was hard not to love, although she lied, and tried her hardest to get what she wanted, I found it so gloomy to have to say bye to her. Once again, bye Indie.
Lei. Or Laney! I knew we were going to see Laney in this book, but I did not see it coming that Lei was Laney at all! And Xander and her. I thought at first it might be Xander and Indie, but nope! When Xander was working with Lei, and when she went still, I knew what was going to happen. Oh Xander.
Speaking of Xander, what did you all think about him in this book? I really felt bad for him. But then again, it ends out well for him, and Cassia and Ky.
Oh when Ky went still!!! Ugh. It was so beautiful, yet so so sad when he went down. How Cassia told him the poem.
And then Oker. I knew what was going to happen when he didn't tell Xander the cure. Then he died. Yup. Saw that coming! I'm not going to say anything about Oker, since he is dead now, but couldn't you just have told Xander?! However, Cassia figures it out and all is somewhat well.
The other major death in this book was Cassia's father. So sad. I don't know much to say about it since he was only in book one, but it's a death nonetheless to a character we knew.
Cassia can go without the green. Walk through the blue. And remember after she takes the red. I find the whole scenario very intriguing. For the others, the red tablet doesn't work for them because they had something before. But Cassia didn't and she still can remember, even a while later.
(EDIT) (1/25/13) I have been getting questions who Cassia ends up with, so she does end up with Ky! (End of edit)
Finally, the ending. Personally, I really liked it. I mean, I hate the feeling that we don't exactly know what's going to happen, but I think Anna will win. On the other hand, I do like not knowing because if the Society won, I would want to see how they would end up, etc. I just think it would call for another book. Same with the Rising and Anna. It does allow us to really consider, and either ways it would take at least another chapter to explain everything if we knew the vote. So in the end, I'm glad about how it ended.

All together, this book defiantly deserves 5/5 stars. -Kait
